The hallway is one of the parts of the home that can often be neglected. It’s a space you pass through rather than one you linger in, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish.
Getting this part of your home right can set the tone for the rest of the space, so it pays to spend a bit of time thinking about how you want to make your hallway look special. A recent article for Ideal Home offered some tips.
At the top of the list is to use tiles for the flooring. Choosing tiles with a graphic pattern will bring “instant impact to a landing, corridor or hallway”, the news provider suggested. You can opt for floor tiles that fit in with your personality and that bring the wow factor to the first place your guests see.
Don’t be afraid of using patterned Italian porcelain floor tiles in your home either. According to Ideal Home, “the geometric trend shows no sign of waning”, so don’t be afraid to make bold design choices.
If you have a large hallway, you can add texture to the space by laying a rug. If you’ve chosen plain tiles, you can use the floor covering as a way to introduce pattern or colour (or both) to the space. The nice thing about this approach is that it’s easily customisable and changeable.
For inspiration on the colour front, take a look at the top tips for the most popular shades of the coming year. Dulux has already named its colour of the year for 2019 as Spiced Honey, an orange-brown hue.
While Pantone has yet to share its colour of the year for 2019, the indications are that warming shades of orange and reds will take centre stage.
